Christine Pesetski, M.Ed., Ph.D. Assistant Provost for Academic Advising and Director of University College | (910) 962-3245 Dr. Christine Pesetski has been the Associate Director of University College since 2018. She is from Dubuque Iowa and earned her undergraduate degree in Journalism and Political Science from Indiana University. Dr. Pesetski also earned her M.Ed.from the University of Delaware and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. She is passionate about helping students successfully transition to life at UNCW. In working with traditionally aged students this can mean challenging and supporting them to be independent thinkers about their academic and career choices. For older students, Christine enjoys supporting them as they juggle family, work, and other expectations while transitioning to and through UNCW. Dr. Pesetski enjoys biking, hiking, kayaking and paddleboarding. She also enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and being outdoors. She loves being able to share insights and suggestions with students to motivate the student around his or her academic pursuits. Seeing a student engage with university resources to pursue a major and then graduate is what makes her work in University College satisfying and worthwhile. |

Assistant Director of Advising and Training | (910) 962-7955 Meta Major: Education Michelle Vliem has been an academic advisor in University College since 2006. She is from a hybrid of the east and west side of Michigan. She was born on the east side where the bulk of her extended family is and she attended upper grades (Shelby), college and started her professional life (Grand Rapids) on the west side. Michelle earned a BS in Business Administration with a management focus from Ferris State University. She also earned an MA in Higher Education Counseling Education from Western Michigan University. She is passionate about college football and seeing students find their passion! She is from Huntersville North Carolina and earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Academic Advisor | 910-362-3529 Thomas joined University College as an Academic Advisor in 2020. He is originally from Manchester, New Hampshire, but feels that Miami, Florida is home. Thomas earned his undergraduate degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University, and his Master's in Recreation, Sports Leadership, and Tourism Management from UNCW. Outside of work, Thomas enjoys working on projects around his house. Woodworking is a favorite pastime. He also enjoys dining out, jogging, fishing, and exploring the natural beauty and history of the Cape Fear Region. |

Academic Advisor, Early Registration | (910) 962-7200 Ally Garrison has been an academic advisor in University College since 2018. She is from Fayetteville, NC and earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration - Marketing with a minor in Recreation, Sports Leadership, and Tourism Management from UNCW. Ally also earned her Master’s degree in Higher Education from UNCW. Ally is passionate about building meaningful relationships with her advisees and takes a developmental and holistic approach to advising. She enjoys fostering an environment that provides students with an opportunity to begin discovering their purpose. In her free time, Ally enjoys being outside partaking in outdoor activities, listening to live music, and trying new local restaurants to support the community and small business owners. She loves being an academic advisor because she can help students “solve the puzzle” by listening to their needs and helping them navigate resources.

Academic Advisor | (910) 962-3575 Meta Major: CHHS Robbie Jones joined University College as an academic advisor in 2017. She is from Ada, Oklahoma and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma in journalism-professional writing and a graduate degree in human relations. Robbie also earned a graduate degree in Digital Media and Storytelling from Loyola University Chicago. She enjoys learning about different cultures, religions, dreams, goals, and ideas from students. She is thankful to have had students over the years who have shared aspects of their culture with her that have allowed her to grow as an individual. She believes that difference makes us stronger. She is also passionate about building relationships and trust. In her free time, Robbie enjoys spending time with her nephews playing board games and riding bikes, reading, and watching reality TV. Robbie has been an academic advisor at multiple institutions for the past 20 years. She loves being able to share new adventures with students and helping them discover who they are and what they are passionate about. |

Academic Advisor | (910) 962-7902 Scott Judson joined University College as an academic advisor in 2019. He is from Bassett, Virginia and earned a bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University in digital media photography and a master's of arts degree in counseling for higher education. He is passionate about growth and actively seeks out opportunities that help him achieve that goal. Scott enjoys discovering new podcasts that dive into topics that he has never thought of before and has an insatiable hunger to learn about academics, hobbies and new places.In his free time, Scott enjoys taking his dog Duke, on hikes. He travels on day trips to learn more about the history of eastern North Carolina especially during the autumn season. And, he loves watching college football. Scott loves walking alongside students during their educational journey, and helping them define what they want out of life and their college experience. One of the most rewarding moments for Scott, as an advisor, is to see a student succeed after they have doubted their abilities. |

Academic Advisor | (910) 962-3845 After advising students part time during the Fall 2019 semester, Scott officially joined the University College team in January 2020. He enjoys helping students navigate the social and academic challenges that accompany the transition to college and working with them to make the most of their undergraduate experience. Scott grew up in a small town in Connecticut and attended Boston College where he received his Bachelor's of Arts in History with an International Studies minor. He has worked in International Education and Service Learning for much of his career and is committed to promoting intercultural awareness and civic growth and development. He has a passion for international travel and has led educational programs in various places around the world, including Spain, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and India. Scott has Master's degrees in International Development Studies and International Education and is currently working toward a Doctorate in Education. When not at work, Scott enjoys exploring everything the Wilmington area has to offer with his wife (a UNCW alumna), two small children, and wire fox terrier. He also spends his time following national politics, the New York Mets, and chipping away at his dissertation. |

Academic Advisor | (910) 962-3549 Nile McKibben is from Wenatchee, Washington, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Nile then earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Edgewood College. He has a passion for kindness, curiosity and adventure. He loves to surround himself with people who are smarter than him, learning from them about life and business alike (and teaching them something too, on occasion). He enjoys sharing his expertise and experiences to empower those who have passion and vision; those who want to make the world--and not just their corner of it--a better place through innovation, servant leadership, a culture that embraces change, and social justice. During his free time, I enjoy spending time with my family whether that be traveling the country with his wife or just simply hanging out at home with his kids and grandchildren. For fun he likes to stay active in sports, whether playing competitive softball with the guys, or working as a basketball official for local high schools and colleges. |

Academic Advisor | (910) 962-3709 Christopher J. Moreland joined University College as an Academic Advisor in 2020. A native of Wilmington, Chris received his BA in History and Religion and MA in History from UNCW and is currently completing his PhD in Cold War Catholicism at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Prior to working for University College, Chris taught as an adjunct instructor for the Department of Philosophy and Religion for four years. He remains active in this field, teaching PAR 103 and PAR 225 online. During his time in Berkeley, Chris served as the office manager for GTU’s Center for Jewish Studies and a program assistant for the Diocese of Oakland. Empathetic and pragmatic, Chris encourages students to embrace every facet of their UNCW experience. He loves introducing students to his hometown by acquainting them with local attractions and dining options. Chris has a dedication to creating learning spaces marked by honest but charitable dialogue, inquisitiveness, courtesy, the free exchange of ideas and plenty of baked goods. As an academic advisor, Chris employs a holistic approach to student development and delights in helping students discover their academic and professional interests. In his spare time, Chris enjoys video gaming, reading on the beach, and socializing with friends. |

Assistant Director, Student-Athlete Support Services | (910) 962-7530 Athletic Advising (Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Tennis) Shannon Pease has been an athletic advisor since 2013. She is from Binghamton, New York and earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Seton Hall University. Shannon earned her Master's in Adult and Higher Education from the University of Oklahoma. She is passionate about seeing student-athletes grow as young adults and evolve over their four years at UNCW. In her free time, Shannon loves to travel and relax on the beach. She is also working on a personal goal of running a half marathon in each state. Shannon loves being an academic advisor because she gets the opportunity to see student-athletes in a different light. She really enjoys getting to see them as students and not just athletes and believes it is very special to see student-athletes graduate after 4 years of hard work. |

Academic Coordinator/Director of Student-Athlete Development, Student-Athlete Support Services | (910)-962-4179 Athletic Advising (Baseball, Softball, Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, Volleyball) Jaime Mangold has been an Academic Coordinator for Student-Athlete Support Services/University College since June 2021. The Director of Student-Athlete Development role was added to her job responsibilities in November 2021. She is originally from Oakland, New Jersey and earned her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from UNCW. Jaime earned her Master's degree in Sport Management from the University of Florida.
During her time in undergrad at UNCW, Jaime was a Division I student-athlete on the Women's Track and Field/Cross Country team. She is passionate about the holistic development of student-athletes and strives to push them to reach their full potential during their college career. In her free time, Jaime likes to exercise, watch sports, go to the beach, go shopping, and try out local restaurants. |

Academic Advisor, Transfer | (910) 962-3987 Dr. Pond has been an academic advisor since 2020. She is from Richmond, VA, and earned her undergraduate degree in English and a Masters in Literature from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also earned her doctorate in sociology from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Pond also earned graduate certificates in Gender and Women's Studies and College Teaching and Learning. She is passionate about working with students and helping students become empowered. She is an advocate for social justice as our society attempts to understand social inequality within our major social intuitions (particularly within education). In her free time, Dr. Pond, loves to read nonfiction literature, playing sports, coaching her daughter's T-ball team and watching her grow. Dr. Pond loves being an academic advisor because she absolutely loves working with students in all capacities. She also enjoys being in the classroom and building relationships with students as they grow as citizens and scholars. |

Academic Advisor | (910) 962-4294 Meta Major: Arts & Humanities and Undecided Maria Ramirez joined University College as an academic advisor in 2017. She is from Monterey Bay, California and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development as well as a Master of Science degree in student affairs and college counseling from California State University, Fresno. She is passionate about traveling the world to gain new perspective and insights into how other individuals live their day to day lives. Maria is consistently amazed by the things she learns about others with a simple “hello”. In her free time, Maria enjoys taking her camera along any adventure that presents itself. If she is not active at the beach, she can usually be found in the mountains or following the sounds of live music. Maria loves being an advisor because working with students is an incredible learning experience. As much as Maria hopes to assist students in their growth and development, she believes the wealth of knowledge she gains from them is priceless. |

Prior to Patti is passionate about teaching, having been a Psychology instructor for over 22 years and teaching First-Year Seminar, UNI 101 at UNCW for over 5 years. Her other greatest passions are volunteering her time and efforts to a wide array of activities and organizations. She’s taught English to a migrant school in China and builds houses for Habitat for Humanity. In her free time, Patti enjoys flying airplanes and wants to continue Patti loves being an academic advisor because of the opportunity to work with students and be a part of their academic journey. Transfer Student Success Advisor (UC & Admissions) | 910-962-3245 Leigh Smith joined University College as an Academic Advisor in 2017. Prior to working in University College, she worked in the Watson College of Education for almost 2 years. Leigh is from Salisbury, North Carolina. During her undergraduate career at North Carolina State University, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing Education and a minor in Business Administration. Leigh earned a Master of Education in College Counseling and Student Development from North Carolina State University. Leigh is passionate about making a positive difference in everyone’s life that she meets. She believes that small acts of kindness can make a difference in others’ lives more than you can imagine. Leigh loves being an academic advisor because she enjoys advising students to aid in their success and assist them in reaching their educational, career, and personal goals. Academic Advisor, Curriculum Coordinator | (910) 962-7970 Dr. Rob Tripp has over 20 years of experience in the service, research and education fields with experiences in teaching and administration in a variety of environments including the university level, K-12, experiential wilderness settings, as well as professional and corporate training and consulting. He holds a BA in Philosophy and Religion from UNCW, a MS in Higher Education from Florida State University and a PhD in Educational Leadership from the University of Nebraska. Dr. Tripp’s leadership experience includes direction of academic, student life and athletic programs; as well as coordinating a statewide data network for homeless service providers. He is passionate about creating and cultivating learning experiences that enhance the educational environment for the students with whom he works, and has a history of utilizing his expertise, enthusiasm and sense of humor to enhance the diverse professional settings where he has been employed. Rob is an avid sports fan and enjoys cheering on his favorite teams as well as coaching youth sports. He also loves the water and, in warmer weather, can be found surfing, paddle boarding or just hanging out on the beach. He is the father of three and currently resides in Wilmington with his wife, son and two daughters. |

He is from Willingboro, New Jersey and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sports Management from Wingate University. Najee also earned a Masters of Education in Higher Education from UNCW. He is passionate about celebrating the overall success of individuals whether it is financial, academic, social, mental or physical. Najee has a hunger for growth and knowledge and believes there is always something new to learn that will make him a better person. He loves watching sports and television, playing video games, listening to music and relaxing. Najee is also a connoisseur of sneakers and owns an extensive collection. Moreover, he loves spending time with family, his fiance and puppy. Najee loves being an academic advisor because it is a critical and integral factor in enhancing the educational experiences and growth opportunities for all students. Administrative Associate | (910) 962-7947 Corinna Struckholz recently joined University College as an Administrative Associate in 2017. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but grew up in Northern Virginia, outside of D.C. She has traveled extensively in the U.S. and has lived in Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, and Rhode Island. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology with minors in English and Religion from Florida State University. She is passionate about life-long learning and is extremely interested in how people from all over live their day to day lives. She is excited to work in higher education and be part of a department that helps students figure out what they want to do with their lives. During Corinna’s free time, she enjoys reading, relaxing on the beach, fishing, eating good food, yoga and listening to music. Currently, she is in a metal and Americana phase. She also enjoys doing anything outside, traveling and being exposed to what the world has to offer. She does her best to remain grateful on a daily basis. |
