Taking Flight 2017

Schedule: Spring Semester 2018

Once you are selected for the Taking Flight program, you will be notified when and where your group will meet. You will meet once a week for five weeks on the same weekday, with exception for Session 2 for Career Success Week. The following dates and times are set:

Workshop Dates and Topics (order of workshops subject to change):

Session 1 (February 12-14, 2018):
Meaningful experiences and skills discussions

  • Accomplishments while at UNCW
  • Career Competencies / Skill Seeker
  • Academic, Service, Work and Leadership experiences

Session 2 (February 19-21, 2018):

  • Financial Planning
  • General discussions on benefits, finding the right salary, living in the "real world"

Session 3 (February 26-28, 2018):

  • Strengths Finder discussion and activities (you will be given the book and assessment the first week)
  • Applying your strengths after college

Session 4 (March 12-14, 2018):
Your career path - you will pick the topics for discussion in your small groups

  • Discussions and activities relating to going into your first job or graduate school
  • Resume exchange
  • Using LinkedIn to its fullest potential

Session 5 (March 19-21, 2018):
Life leading to commencement and after - conversations about:

  • Your transition
  • Commencement speeches
  • Cornerstone Pledge
  • Civic engagement
  • Staying connected to UNCW, being a Seahawk for life

Final Celebration (Wednesday, April 4, 2018):
Celebrate the completion of Taking Flight with a reception at the Wise Alumni House.

  • Staff from Alumni Relations and local alums will be present to network with you.
