Message from Chancellor Sartarelli re. Human Resources

Dear Faculty and Staff:

I am writing to you today regarding an organizational change that will help us continue to make UNCW as competitive as possible in the marketplace, and as supportive as possible for our current employees.

With Rosalynn Martin's resignation as our Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, we had a unique opportunity to reevaluate our org structure to ensure it aligns with the new strategic plan and our increased focus on employee satisfaction and retention. As such, the Department of Human Resources will now be part of the Chancellor’s division, with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources reporting directly to me and serving as a member of Cabinet.

Provost Sheerer and Chief of Staff Bradley Ballou will be co-chairing a national search for our next head of HR. The search will be conducted by a search firm and will begin in the coming weeks. We plan to hold campus presentations by the candidates, so everyone affected by this critical hire can be part of the process.

In the meantime, please join me in thanking Liz Grimes, who has been serving as Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources since Sept. 9.  I needn't tell you about Liz's dedication to our university and employees; since 2000, she has served UNCW with great professionalism, passionate and compassionate support of employee relations, and thoughtful advocacy for our campus within the System.  I am very grateful to Liz for stepping into this role, and I also want to thank VCBA Rick Whitfield for his oversight of Human Resources for the past several years. His leadership has positioned HR for great success moving forward.

Thank you,

Jose V. Sartarelli
