We want to celebrate in a mash-up of an event.

On Thursday, April 23 join UNCW Sustainability and Randall Library in a Virtual FlashLIT Reading, focused on poems & short writings (fiction or nonfiction) about the environment. "The environment" is a huge topic, but we like it that way! You can read a poem you enjoy about birds, mountains, or waves - or - you can write a short story to share about hair, climate, or bicycles. There are no restrictions (besides being respectful), we have enough of those right now.

There were plans earlier in the semester to have a similar mash-up event, so we have gone virtual and opened the readings up to anyone!

FlashLIT is a writing competition where contestants have one week to write 500 words (or less) in any genre of writing. An expansion of Randall Library's annual Flash Fiction contest, FlashLIT is a hallmark of applied learning at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and the entire student body is invited to participate. This year's theme is Feast or Famine.

The top three winners from the FlashLIT competition will open the event by reading their work.

American Sign Language interpretations of the readings will be done by CFCC Interpreter Education Students!

How to get involved -

  • Joining to listen? Simply sign in Thursday, April 23 at 5:30 PM and enjoy it!
  • Want to read a piece of art you've written or one that you like? Please send it to sustainability@uncw.edu as a text document or a PowerPoint slide (if you want to personalize it). We will be creating a PowerPoint of all of the poems that will be shared screen in the Zoom. Poems are due by Thursday, April 23 at noon.
