Current Fringe Rates

OSPREY budget tab calculates all personnel and student fringe rates automatically on the budget tab once you add them onto your proposal.

Please do not use any fringe rate calculator that you find online or have used in the past, as OSPREY is up-to-date and updated daily from BANNER and is the only accurate source at this time.

Faculty Pay

There is no such thing as a Faculty Stipend. Faculty are paid from grants based on percentage of effort of Institutional Base Salary.

Faculty cannot be independent contractors for any North Carolina state agency including UNCW.

Calculating Academic Year Course Buyout

Course buyouts are when grant funds "buy" a faculty members' released time by paying for that portion of their salary so that the equivalent amount of effort can be spent working on the grant.

Currently, a 3 credit-hour course equates to 10% effort or .90 calendar months (inclusive of both salary and full fringe benefits).

Calculating Faculty Summer Pay

For a 9 month faculty appointment:

Institutional Base Salary divided by 9 = 1 month of pay

Ex. $65,000/9 = $7,222.22 = 1 month summer salary

*Summer pay must be based on previous year’s Institutional Base Salary
