Accessible Recreation Day


Accessible Recreation Day, held on the campus of UNCW, showcases recreation opportunities for persons with disabilities. All activities are adapted for people of all ages who are wheelchair users, as well as those with other physical disabilities.

Clinics are available as well as ongoing demonstrations and opportunities for casual participation facilitated by elite wheelchair athletes and others trained in accessibility and adapted equipment.

Participants can take part in many events including: Golf, tennis, seated aerobics, wheelchair basketball, power wheelchair hockey, African Movement, adapted gardening, Aikido, Jujitsu, climbing wall, disc golf, hand cycling, beach games and yoga.

The Coastal Carolina Partnership for Accessible Recreation (CCPAR) was founded by the UNCW Recreation Therapy curriculum and is a collaboration between UNCW's Campus Recreation, along with the Rehabilitation Hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, NC Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, the YMCA, and Wilmington Disabled Athletes Association.
