Staff International Travel Award

Global Partnerships and International Education supports staff gaining global perspectives to benefit their professional excellence at UNCW. Applications will be reviewed by the Staff Senate Scholarship Committee with recommendations made to the GPIE Associate Provost. Apply for this unique opportunity by May 31 for travel associated with the following academic year.

Applicant Instructions

2. Email your completed application and supporting documents to global@uncw.edu
3. Awards will be announced via email with copy to the named department travel contact.

Complete applications include:

• Staff International Staff International Travel Award Application (PDF) signed by applicant and supervisor
• Budget of anticipated travel expenses, including other funding sources for this travel
• Supporting documentation, which may include information about the conference, an acceptance letter, an invitation to participate in a workshop, email correspondence with a colleague abroad indicating his/her willingness to "host" you, etc.

Awards for the current fiscal year must be spent by June 1. If your travel occurs during the summer (May through August), you may prepay expenses through the UNCW Travel Office or with a UNCW Visa travel card to ensure your award is spent before June 1. The entire award must be used in the same fiscal year and may not be deferred to the next fiscal year without approval from the Office of Global Partnerships and International Education.

Award Guidelines

1. Maximum award is $2,500 per staff member each year.
2. Awards are open to all full-time EHRA non-teaching and SHRA staff.
3. Travel to a country where there is a Department of State (DOS) warning requires additional justification as to the necessity of the travel and the source of funding. To access current DOS Travel Warning go to https://travel.state.gov/content/travel.html
4. Travel must occur within the fiscal year in which the award is granted.
5. Please note: Travel to a country listed under travel advisories by the Department of State as category 3 or 4 requires justification as to the necessity of the travel and safety issues must be specifically addressed. Travel to a country listed as a category 2, but with intended travel to locations within the country that have a category 3 or 4 warning, will also require justification. Proposals to travel to these countries or specific locations will require review by a Risk Management Review Committee and the approval of the Provost. A review may be required for additional travel outside of these parameters when deemed necessary. 6. Awards for travel in the next fiscal year are awarded provisionally and are contingent on that year’s budget.
7. If the recipient leaves the university before the award funds are used or their travel is canceled, the award will be forfeited for that fiscal year and re-awarded to another applicant. Please contact global@uncw.edu if you are no longer able to use your award in the intended timeframe.
