About UNCW Recycling

UNCW Recycling Services' mission is to sustainably capture, process, and export recyclable commodities with the ultimate goal of attaining the UNC University System's Zero Waste Goals.

It is our intent to engage the minds, hands, and hearts of the UNCW university community to design, construct, and operate sustainable enterprises in the attempt to realize this mission.

Recycling Services empower Seahawks to preserve natural resources, pursue sustainability, and protect the environment.

Our goal is to capture valuable recyclable commodities, efficiently and sustainably, from the campus waste stream to reduce the amount of waste generated from campus activities going to the landfill. We strive to meet the goals set forth by the North Carolina Solid Waste Management Act. We also strive to be a valuable resource to the community by providing access to recycling and to specialized recycling that may not be offered by other services.

We service over 400 recycling points across 70 buildings, including off campus sites such as DC Virgo Preparatory School and the Center for Marine Science. Our technicians process collected materials into sorted recyclable products that are baled and sent to vendors across the state. The UNCW Recycling team is always asking the question, "How can we keep it out of the landfill?" To that end, we are always exploring options to expand our services, increase specialty recycling programs, and enhance campus operations.
