Design Process
The selected firm will work through UNCW’s Architectural & Construction Services department with a building committee that includes user representatives. The process will include normal involvement of the State System Office.
Critical Selection Factors
Most of the criteria listed below can be accommodated in sections A-G of the 330 form. Section H can be used for any additional information. The total submittal, including a letter of interest, is limited to 25 sheets of paper. Both sides of the sheet may be used for a total of 50 pages. Firms are requested to assure receipt of proposals by Nov 24, 2023.
- Experience and expertise with similar projects.
- Past performance on similar projects.
- Experience in design projects to be part of an existing campus context.
- Adequate staff and proposed consultant team – qualifications and examples of previous collaborations.
- Historically Underutilized Business representation in proposed consultant team.
- Current workload and State projects awarded.
- Proposed design approach or methodology.
- Recent experience with project cost estimates and schedule adherence.
- Construction administration capabilities.
- Record of successfully completed projects without major legal or technical problems.
- A minimum of three references with current contact information.
- Experience managing renovations in a partially occupied building.
- The main office for all consultants must be within 250 miles of the UNCW Campus. Satellite offices will not count for this requirement.
- Civil engineering consultants must show proficiencies with local and North Carolina stormwater permitting on campus and within the local coastal zone.
- Sport field designers must have experience with baseball grass to turf conversions at the NCAA level.
Designer Selection Process
Following the receipt of proposals, a University Interview Committee will shortlist, interview and make a recommendation for selection to the UNCW Board of Trustees for approval.

Interested firms can participate in the process by submitting a current SF 330 form and addressing the following in a written proposal. Please submit electronically to project manager Craig Brackens at brackensc@uncw.edu or, by mail to the address below.
In order that the selection process be as objective as possible, do not contact members of the UNCW Board of Trustees, or any university officials other than the project manager. All questions are to be directed to the University’s project manager listed below. We will not guarantee that any/all additional correspondence can/will be addressed.
