GSA Travel Grants

All graduate students are eligible to apply for travel grants.

NOTE: The grant application is now open for the Spring 2026 semester. It will remain open until April 30, 2026 -OR- until funds are exhausted (whichever occurs first).

These grants are designed to reward excellence in scholarship and to increase the visibility of the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s graduate programs within the academic community. Please review the information below for information on how to apply.

GSA Travel Grants

The Graduate Student Association provides graduate students with travel grants to attend professional conferences, workshops, or to complete thesis research. Funds are limited and all guidelines are strictly enforced.

Grant Conditions and Application Requirements

  • APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2025-2026.
    • Application remains open until April 15, 2026 or until grant funds are exhausted.
  • The GSA Travel Grant award is up to $350.
  • Students can apply for this travel grant only once per academic year.
  • Please note that you must be an active member of GSA to receive a GSA travel grant. Active membership includes being on GSA’s Wavelink roster, regular attendance at monthly GSA meetings and departmental GSA meetings (as scheduled), attending GSA-sponsored activities, and volunteering for GSA and departmental GSA service (as needed). If timing of student travel does not permit participation in GSA meetings prior to travel, the student must commit to attending the NEXT scheduled GSA meeting for the funds to be awarded. The GSA treasurer will make note of this exception. While distance learners may attend online, we encourage main campus students to attend in person. Main campus students contacting the GSA at least two hours before a scheduled meeting will be sent Zoom information if they are unable to attend a face-to-face meeting due to extenuating circumstances. 
  • Students cannot combine this award with either a Graduate School Travel Allocation or a grant from their departmental Graduate Student Association for the same event.
  • Funds will be reimbursed to the applicant's student account following submission of receipts for qualifying purchases.
  • Eligible expenses include mileage, airfare, lodging, registration, parking, and taxi/shuttle/Uber. Please note meals are not eligible for reimbursement at this time.
  • Please submit the completed application to Treasurer at mjc8454@uncw.edu  along with a letter of support from your faculty advisor.
  • All completed applications must be submitted no later than 3 weeks prior to the requested travel date.
