UNCW Kenan Auditorium is delighted to share a series of programs for families called SEAHAWK Family Arts Matinees, or SEAHAWK FAM for short. The series is BACK for Summer of 2023 with $5 performances on Thursday mornings, designed as a creative and entertaining respite from the summer heat. These special one-hour performances will run June 29 – July 27, all in UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium. Bring the whole family – and your friends – to enjoy performances created especially for families of all kinds.
Are you ready for some fun science? Our Special Event, “Spin, Pop, Boom” is all about awesome experiments! You will be amazed when the Mad Scientist is able to defy gravity in this energetic and spectacular special event. Didgeridoo tubes, giant bubbles and steaming chemical reactions will introduce children to a world of exciting chemistry. You will marvel at our demonstrations as we release genies from bottles and spew massive columns of foam with the use of our catalysts! So, get ready to be amazed while you learn, because at Mad Science, all education is entertaining!
No Sleeves Magic is designed for kids who want to have EXTRAORDINARY FUN while at the same time, make friends, grow in confidence, and have something exciting to look forward to every day. The variety of techniques and entertainment we provide is the driving force in building character, self-esteem, communication skills, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Singer and songwriter, Jason Andre, recalls his adventures in exploring the ocean, local salt marshes, and waterways with his nieces and nephews as well as generations of kids throughout the years as a marine biology/conservation educator, professional surf instructor, and true Outer Banks Pirate. Sea Songs For Little Pirates is a collection of fun marine biology/pirate themed folk rock songs for kids…that parents will appreciate!
Kaya Littleturtle has been active in the Lumbee Tribe his entire life, and his family has been right there with him. His grandfather, Ray Littleturtle, was a wisdom keeper and his grandmother is a talented native storyteller. It was in that family-centered environment that Kaya became inspired to carry on Lumbee traditions in order to build and preserve community.
Mr. Scooter is a storyteller, rapper and children's librarian from Wilmington, North Carolina. He has released two children's albums as Melvil Dewey - International Library Hip Hop Superstar and is the creator of the Book Wrangler and Rap Battle of the Books. Mr. Scooter is a Library Journal Mover, Shaker Innovator and NACO award winner. His work has been featured in School Library Journal and VOYA Magazine.
