UNCW Student Connections

As a UNCW-community connector, CIE is often asked by the community about engaging with students - and by students about engaging with the community.

Below are some ways to get started, from internships to programs to curricular programs.

For students

UNCW Students, CIE is here for YOU! Whether you want to discuss a business idea or get an internship, we have resources to help you succeed. Below are some ways to get started.

  • Work at CIE - Each year, CIE hires students to help us with our marketing, operations, and project-specific needs. Be sure to check Handshake or contact the CIE (cie@uncw.edu) to inquire about student positions at CIE.
  • Get an internship with a business - Your first stop for an internship should be the UNCW Career Center. CIE can help with connections as well. Here is how to contact us for reaching the entrepreneurial community.
  • Meet community entrepreneurs - Attend a CIE event or program. For example, every Wednesday from 9AM-10AM, we have an entrepreneurial meetup called 1 Million Cups Wilmington. Stop by, have a free cup of coffee, and hear from and meet some of the region's entrepreneurs!
  • Develop your idea - If you have an idea, we can help you to figure out next steps. Next steps could include:
    • Referral - A CIE Staff Member may provide a personal referral to a program such as the UNCW Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) to get started with developing your business model and vetting your idea. They offer free and confidential advice and are next to CIE.
    • CIE Event/Program - CIE programs are designed to develop and scale ideas. Review the list of upcoming events and register.
    • CIE Membership - Consider becoming a CIE Member to receive insider information, free entry to programs, and more. Information is here. While Memberships are only $25/yr for UNCW students.
    • CIE Mentor team - If you have already met with UNCW SBTDC and have an idea that is scalable that you are dedicated to, consider applying for a CIE Mentor team. Information about our Mentors is here.
    • Coworking - If you need a dedicated facility to focus on your idea and need space to collaborate with others and meet with business partners, then check out our coworking space! It is only $70/month for students.

For employers

If you would like to hire a UNCW student, your first stop should be the UNCW Career Center. The Career Center leads helping you to find talent, whether it is full-time, part-time, or an internship.
