UNCW’s QENO Continues to Support Rural Organizations through SECU Public Fellows Internship Program [6/9/22]

The University of North Carolina Wilmington is pleased to announce 13 undergraduate students have been selected to participate in the SECU Public Fellows Internship Program for the summer 2022. The program offers full-time, paid, remote summer internships at nonprofits that serve rural communities in Onslow, Pender, and Brunswick counties The program is hosted by QENO (Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations), in partnership with the UNCW Career Center and UNCW Applied Learning. The summer 2022 program is funded by a grant of $75,000 to QENO from the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation.

Utilizing QENO’s model for nonprofit capacity building, 2022 SECU Public Fellows Interns will provide direct support to their partner organizations. During the course of the program, they will conduct an organizational assessment, develop an annual calendar of best practices for the board of directors and executive staff, and create an action plan for at least one new or improved best practice.

This year’s SECU Public Fellow Interns and their partner organizations are:

  • Erick Mendiola, Black River Health - Manos Unidas
  • Tara Essey, Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity
  • Marie Lloyd, Brunswick Senior Resource's, Inc.
