Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations

QENO ORIENTATION

Nonprofit leaders, including staff and board members, are invited to learn about QENO and the services offered. The orientation begins with a presentation that leads into a hands-on workshop, so attendees can experience our consulting process. These events are held via Zoom - a link will be emailed to registrants by the day prior.

CADENCE WORKSHOP (in person)

Nonprofits in the Cadence Program, or that want to join, learn to use QENO's tools for organizational development with the added benefit of peer-to-peer discussions. These events are held at the Harrelson Center at 20 N. 4th St in downtown Wilmington (parking info).

NOTE: If you haven't attended a Cadence workshop before, please attend a QENO Orientation first (see above).

POLICY WRITING WORKSHOP

An introduction to writing and revising organizational policies. Participants will learn about policies related to different areas of nonprofit management/governance, ways to use AI technology to assist, and how to manage policy documents and keep them up to date. Participants are encouraged to bring a digital copy of a policy document that needs to be revised. These events are held via Zoom - a link will be emailed to registrants by the prior business day.

BOARD GOVERNANCE TRAINING

An overview of nonprofit governance, the role of a board of directors, and tools & systems for efficient, effective boards and committees. These events are held at the Harrelson Center at 20 N. 4th St in downtown Wilmington (parking info).

ADVOCACY TRAINING

An overview of nonprofit advocacy with regard to engaging elected officials and public administrators around legislation, public policies, and how they are implemented. This training will cover the difference between advocacy and lobbying, why advocacy is an important function of the nonprofit sector, and how to engage effectively in advocacy efforts at the local, state, or federal level. These events are held via Zoom - a link will be emailed to registrants by the prior business day.

COMMUNITY IMPACT LAB

Emerging topics discussions, announcements, and networking. Open to all public service providers and stakeholders, including nonprofit staff and board members, coalition leaders, community advocates, public administrators, elected officials, researchers, funders, and capacity builders. These events are held at the Harrelson Center at 20 N. 4th St in downtown Wilmington (parking info).

No registration is required. 

NONPROFIT STARTUP TRAINING

This training is for individuals who are thinking about starting a nonprofit organization. It covers a range of topics that are important to consider before creating a new organization. These events are held via Zoom - a link will be emailed to registrants by the prior business day.

QENO Director, Sara Fletcher Daniels (she/they) holds a Masters of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management and a bachelor's degree in Political Science from UNC Wilmington, as well as a bachelor's in Music Performance from the University of Georgia. She served as Finance Director at Thalian Hall, Executive Director of Feast Down East, Interim Director of the NC Blueberry Festival Association, and Executive Director of the New Hanover Disaster Coalition. Sara founded the Cape Fear Food Council, which was integral in coordinating food assistance services across the community after Hurricane Florence and early in the Covid-19 pandemic. She owned and operated a consulting firm that offered nonprofit management services and also taught Nonprofit Financial Management in the MPA program at UNCW. Her areas of expertise and passion include program design and evaluation, organizational development, inter-organizational collaboration, equity & diversity, and public policy advocacy.
