Donovan O. Woods

Assistant Professor

Donovan Woods is an Assistant Professor of Finance in the Department of Economics and Finance. He received his B.S. and B.A. in Management and Political Science from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2015, an MBA from the University of Mississippi in 2017, and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Mississippi in 2021. Dr. Woods teaches courses in Corporate Finance, Investments, Financial Markets & Trading, and FinTech. His teaching emphasizes applied analytical skills and bridging academic research with real-world financial practice. He also mentors students involved in forecasting, market analysis, and investment research initiatives across the department.

His research examines market microstructure, retail investor behavior, the structure and performance of trading venues, and the implications of information frictions for price discovery and execution quality. His work contributes to a broader understanding of how modern, fragmented financial markets shape trading outcomes and investor performance.

Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. Woods enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, including traveling and exploring the local trails and coastal areas with his daughter and their two dogs. He also enjoys discovering new restaurants and local breweries in the region. Additionally, he maintains an active lifestyle and regularly participates in fitness and endurance events.
