Specialization in Teaching

Sam teaches about the scholarly communication landscape and how it intersects with information literacy and the public good.

Research Interests

Sam's research interests focus on theory in libraries and increasing the impact of research for the public good. Before librarianship, his research focused on sport and recreation from a cultural studies approach, and he continues to engage in that field as well.

Professional Service

Sam chairs UNCW Library's internal Open Knowledge Working Group. He has also co-facilitated the UNC System's Open Pedagogy Approach program through its several iterations since Spring 2023, and serves as UNCW Library's representative on the UNC System University Library Advisory Council's Open and Affordable Resources Committee.
