Rhonda Y. Vega

Clinical Associate Professor

Dr. Rhonda Vega is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Clinical Research Program, in the College of Health and Human Services. She began teaching in UNCW's clinical research program as a part-time instructor in 2019, while also working full-time in the clinical research industry. She joined the faculty as a full-time professor in fall 2024.

She has over 30 years’ experience in management and senior leadership in clinical research. Throughout her career she has led clinical research operations and development programs from early phase (first-in-human) trials to pivotal Phase III studies. She has held senior Director-level positions at several large CROs and biotech companies. She has extensive experience in medical and regulatory writing and clinical trial design, and has managed numerous clinical research project teams.

Her area of research interest is the OneHealth model that recognizes the connectiveness of human, animal and environmental factors that contribute to health; in particular, zoonotic and vector-borne diseases.

Dr. Vega holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from North Carolina State University, and is a Harvard Medical School Global Clinical Research Scholar.
