Helen B Tadese
Assistant Professor
Helen B. Tadese, PhD, MSW, is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she teaches in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program with a focus on research methods. Her teaching emphasizes helping students understand and apply research to address community needs and develop evidence-based interventions.
Dr. Tadese is also a research fellow at the Center for New North Carolinians within the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In this role, she conducts research aimed at improving outcomes for immigrant and refugee communities across North Carolina and collaborates with scholars from various institutions.
Her current research centers on refugees’ psychological well-being and their traumatic experiences across the pre-migration, in-transit, and post-migration phases. Additionally, Dr. Tadese contributes to several National Institutes of Health (NIH)– funded research projects, supporting methodological development in collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams.
Dr. Tadese incorporates student-led, active learning approaches in her teaching to help students effectively use research to improve the lives of individuals and communities.
