Begum Otken
Lecturer
Dr. Ayse Begum Otken is a Professor of Management with an extensive academic career spanning Turkey, US, and Europe. She currently teaches at the UNCW where she has served as Lecturer of Management since 2022, following five years as a Visiting Professor beginning in 2017.
Dr. Otken previously held faculty positions at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration. During her tenure, she also served as Interim Chair of the Department, Vice Chair of Graduate Programs, and MBA Program Coordinator, overseeing curriculum design, enrollment, and program administration. In addition to her work in the United States and Turkey, Dr. Otken was an International Lecturer in Organizational Behavior at Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg Karlsruhe in Germany, further contributing to cross-cultural business education.
She has published widely in respected national and international journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics, Global Business Review, European Research Studies Journal, Management Research Review, and others. Her research contributions have earned recognition such as the Best Paper Award at the 2015 Midwest Academy of Management Annual Meeting.
She is an active member of academic communities, serving on university committees at UNCW and contributing to conferences worldwide as a presenter, researcher, and keynote speaker. Her work has also extended to public engagement, including interviews and workshops on topics such as de-growth, organizational culture, and workplace well-being.
Dr. Otken continues to advance scholarship in organizational behavior while bringing global perspectives to her teaching and mentoring of students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
