Susanna Lopez-Legentil

Director, Center for Faculty Development

I am committed to supporting faculty at every stage of their careers. My goal is to create opportunities for growth, foster meaningful connections, and help faculty succeed at UNCW. Having served as both a faculty member and Assistant Chair in the Department of Biology and Marine Biology, I understand the opportunities and challenges of academic life firsthand. These experiences shape my approach to faculty development and reinforce the importance of building a supportive environment where faculty can thrive and achieve their goals. I value collaboration, continuous learning, and the exchange of ideas, and I am committed to working with faculty across the university to help strengthen our academic community and enhance the impact we have on our students and society.

Research Interests

The iMESA Lab seeks to deepen our understanding of human impacts on marine ecosystems. From microscopic bacteria to understudied sea squirts, we investigate how marine organisms are interconnected and how environmental change may alter these relationships.
