James W Hoon
Assistant Director, Career Development
As the Assistant Director of Career Development, James serves as the Career Center liaison for the Watson College of Education while also leading strategic career exploration initiatives across the university. Through one-on-one coaching, classroom workshops, and targeted programming, James helps individuals translate their experiences into meaningful opportunities. A key component of his role is building strong relationships with faculty, alumni, and employers while also planning and executing signature events, including the Career Carnival and the Education Career Fair. He strives to create a supportive environment where all students feel empowered to take the next step in their journey.
Prior to coming to UNCW, James worked at the Vanderbilt University Career Center as a Career Coach supporting students who are in the exploration process of the career journey. Before that, he served as an AmeriCorps College Advisor at a rural high school in Pennsylvania with the College Advising Corps.
