Russ Herman
Professor
Dr. Herman is a mathematical physicist with joint appointments in Mathematics & Statistics and Physics and Physical Oceanography. He was the recipient of several teaching awards, has mentored students in mathematics, physics, and honors. He has also led Science Olympiad events and judged a number of science fair projects over the years. He has also given a number of talks in areas such as cosmology, black holes, nonlinear waves, and other areas in mathematics and physics.

Dr. Herman has taught introductory through graduate courses in applied mathematics, partial differential equations, mathematical physics, quantum theory, optics, history of mathematics, cosmology, and general relativity.
Research Interests
Research interests include topics in nonlinear wave equations, soliton perturbation theory, fluid dynamics, relativity, Fourier analysis, Laplace transforms, asymptotics, mathematical physics, chaos and dynamical systems, and the history of mathematics.
