Bryan Guzman
Temporary EHRA/Faculty
I am a proud Dominican, born in Santo Domingo and raised in Newark, New Jersey, where my multicultural upbringing shaped my love for language, community, and culture. Growing up between two worlds instilled in me a deep appreciation for my heritage and deepened my desire to explore the richness of Latin America. Travel has become one of my greatest passions. I love discovering new places, connecting with people, and immersing myself in the diverse traditions that make each Latin American country unique. Music is also an essential part of my life. Whether it’s the rhythms of merengue and bachata or the sounds of other Latin genres, music inspires me, grounds me, and connects me to my roots. My passion for culture, learning, and meaningful connections guides everything I do.
Education
M.A. in Spanish, University of North Carolina Wilmington.
B.A in Spanish, Kean University.
Specialization in Teaching
Taught Spanish K–12 and university levels.
Research Interests
My research interests include exile, diaspora, identity, bilingualism, migration, and the cultural expressions of the Dominican diaspora in the United States. I like to examine how practices such as language, food, and music negotiate dominicanidad across generations and how bilingualism, code-switching, and Spanglish in literature and film challenge monolingual narratives while representing the hybrid realities of Dominican-American life.
