Indranil Ghosh

Indranil Ghosh is a Professor of Statistics and Graduate Coordinator (MS in Mathematics) in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Dr. Ghosh’s doctoral degree is in Applied Statistics from the University of California Riverside, under the supervision of Dr. Barry C. Arnold. He is the author of numerous research papers in refereed journals and has co-authored or edited a number of books in the areas of statistical distributions and applications. Dr. Ghosh is a member of many professional organizations, notably, the International Statistical Institute (ISI) (elected member), and the American Statistical Association (ASA) among a few others, notably the chair of the Risk Analysis Section of the ASA in 2022 and 2024. He is a regular reviewer for a large number of reputable journals, NSF, and books in the field of statistical science. He is currently serving as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Business Analytics, Spanish Journal of Statistics, Journal of Statistical Theory and Practice (Guest Editor), Associate Editor of the Journal of Statistical Distributions and Applications (2020-2022), Journal of the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (AE), American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences (AE), Stochastics and Quality Control (AE), Communications in Statistics.

Research Interests

My research interest primarily deals with the development of probabilistic and statistical models and their applications to diverse problems that arise from Science and Engineering. In particular, my interest lies in developing models via copula for the analysis of data that emerge from financial risk, reliability and life-testing experiments, and industrial statistical problems, and in medical Science. I am also actively involved in doing research in the following including but not limited to the following areas: Survival Analysis; Probability Theory; Classical and Bayesian inference for hidden truncation models; Compatibility of conditional distributions; Statistical decision theory; Risk mitigation efforts via copula based modeling of financial data; Construction of univariate, bivariate, multivariate and matrix variate probability distributions under both the discrete and continuous domain and associated inference.
