Many high schoolers visit UNCW with hopes of one day attending. Lauren Franklin ’06, ’10M, '18Ed.D. was one of them. Three degrees and several job titles later, including interim director of admissions, she is officially the Director of Admissions at UNCW.

A first-generation college student, Franklin gave campus tours for the Office of Admissions during her first year as an undergraduate. After graduation, her first job was UNCW Admissions Counselor.

“We know the Office of Admissions is in excellent hands under her dedicated leadership and passion for the Seahawk community,” said James J. Winebrake, UNCW Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Feeling fortunate to work for her alma mater, Franklin is also appreciative of the admissions team members and the creative, strategic and adaptable approach she sees in their passion to create pathways to UNCW for students.

“The pandemic forced UNCW to reimagine recruitment and interactions with students,” she said. “There were no college fairs or school visits. No in-person information sessions. No campus tours or open house events. Fortunately, we had our staff who recreated those experiences online and built strong connections with students.”

The efforts of Franklin and her staff helped lead UNCW to a record enrollment of more than 18,000 students in fall 2021, the largest student body to date.
