Joseph A. Farinella

Associate Professor

Dr. Joe Farinella has worked at the University of North Carolina Wilmington since 1999. He teaches Business Finance and Investments classes for undergraduate students. He also teaches classes in Investments, and International Finance to graduate students in the International Master of Business Program. In the past, he has taught several courses in the Master of Accounting program and Master of Finance program.

Prior, to working at UNCW he was an inaugural faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University (1997 – 1999). He also worked at the University of Southern Maine from 1994 - 1997. His first job was at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange, and he has managed money for high-net-worth individuals.

Dr. Farinella earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1999. He has worked as an economic expert for over three decades. He has been retained as an expert in approximately 400 cases. These cases involve business disputes, valuation of closely held companies, calculation of economic damages and suitability of investments. He has been deposed or testified in approximately 36 different cases.

Dr. Farinella has two daughters Margaret and Catherine Farinella. Catherine is a CPA and works in mergers and acquisitions at PWC in New York. Margaret is currently completing her second year of law school at the University of Georgia. Joe Farinella has many interests’ including hot yoga, working out, boating, golfing, concerts, sporting events, poker and traveling.
