Although new to his role as director of the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, Steve Elliott '96 has been employed with the university for more than 12 years, and he was a Seahawk long before then.
“I was an international student at UNCW,” he said. “I played on the university’s soccer team and with the Wilmington Hammerheads.”
After attending high school in Bournemouth, England, alongside Batman – that is, actor Christian Bale – Elliott came to UNCW to obtain a bachelor’s degree in K-12 health and physical education. He also holds an M.Ed. and a philosophy Ph.D. in education, both from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
In his previous positions as associate and interim director of SHAHS, Elliott really enjoyed the collaboration between faculty, students and staff made possible in part by the growth within the College of Health and Human Services.
“Everyone works together to create new opportunities,” he said. “New courses, degree programs, research projects, community partnerships – it’s very exciting.”
Elliott’s passion for education extends even beyond the regular workweek. “One of my hobbies is my job,” he said. “I love watching people teach!”
