Hillary Engel

Lecturer

Hillary Engel is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Criminology who earned her M.A. in Public Sociology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She is experienced as a public sociologist and research analyst in the field of higher education, supporting institutions with strategic planning, marketing, program evaluation, and student success and retention.

Her experience, use of innovative pedagogy, community partnerships, and teaching philosophy shape impactful and enriching courses that center students through active learning. Hillary’s research and teaching interests include social inequalities—particularly the intersections of race, class, and gender—as well as the social construction of collective memory.
