Chris Dumas
Professor
Dr. Dumas is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina. He completed his undergraduate degrees at North Carolina State University and his Master's and Ph.D. degrees at the University of California Berkeley.
Dr. Dumas has been a faculty member at the University of North Carolina Wilmington since 1997, first in the Department of Economics and Finance, and later in the Department of Environmental Sciences.

Specialization in Teaching
Dr. Dumas teaches environmental economics, econometrics/statistics, ecological modeling, fisheries policy and management, non-market environmental valuation, and economic impact assessment.
Research Interests
Dr. Dumas' research focuses on coastal resource management, including the economics of fisheries, beaches and beach tourism, water quality, inlet and waterway use, hurricane impacts, and saltwater aquaculture. Among other work, Dr. Dumas completed the 2021 report "Economic Impact Analysis of North Carolina's Commercial Fisheries" for NCDMF, "Inland Recreational Fishing in North Carolina: Economic Impacts and Angler Benefits" for NCWRC in 2019, and the economic analysis for the NC Beach and Inlet Management Plan for NCDCM in 2016. He was co-author of the 2021 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report Data and Management Strategies for Recreational Fisheries with Annual Catch Limits.
Professional Service
Dr. Dumas has been a member of the Socio-Economic Panel or the Scientific and Statistical Committee (or both) of the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council since 2004.
