Professor

William Compton is full professor of finance at UNC-Wilmington. He received his M.B.A. and Ph.D. in finance from Florida State University and taught at Western Illinois University and Eastern Illinois University before coming to UNCW in 2000. He has taught investments, corporate finance, and international finance at the undergraduate level, and has taught Master of Business and Masters of Accounting courses on investments and corporate finance using case study methods. He is currently teaching Alternative Investments and Quantitative Analysis for the online Master of Finance program at UNCW. Dr. Compton has published research papers in leading academic journals, primarily in stock market anomalies, and he has also published papers on derivatives, asset allocation, gambling, and some pedagogical work. His most recent papers include "The Turn-of-the-Month Effect in U.S. Sector ETFs" (Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives) and "Required Minimum Distributions, Social Security and Tax Strategies (Tax Notes Federal). Dr. Compton's research has been published in national and international journals such as Financial Services Review, Managerial Finance, American Business Review, Global Business & Finance Review, Journal of Economics & Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives, The Sport Journal, and the Journal of Transportation Management.
