We Are UNCW

Justin Borges

When Justin Borges ’14 first stepped foot on the campus of UNCW, he found himself in unfamiliar territory. For the first time in his life, the New York native was living on his own, away from everyone and everything he knew. What he found was a new home that offered him support and helped shape him into the person he is today.

“UNCW is an incredible community with people from all walks of life,” Borges said. “It’s a place that changes every life that ever steps foot down Chancellor’s Walk. It’s second to none.”

Borges now works for Bloomberg L.P. as an environmental, social and governance fundamentals analyst and Latino community chair, a position that gives him the opportunity to learn about various cultures. Borges works with more than 100 people from numerous backgrounds on a daily basis to bring new elements to the Bloomberg culture.

In addition to his work as community chair, Borges plans to help more UNCW alumni have an opportunity at Bloomberg.

“Every person that has come to Bloomberg from Wilmington has done incredibly well,” Borges said. “With representation spanning from data to sales, Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Intelligence, I want to continue that trend.”

For Borges, UNCW is more than just a university. It is the place that gave him the opportunity to find himself as he grew both personally and professionally. As he continues to move forward in his post-college life, he is grateful for the time he was able to spend in Wilmington.

“UNCW is a part of who I am,” said Borges. “The four years I spent in Wilmington changed my life. I met my best friends during my time there. I met family there. I learned who I was meant to be. I’ll take my Seahawk pride with me everywhere I go. That will never change.”
