Sarah L. Brownlee
Lecturer
Sarah has over 20 years of experience in the field of social work, including providing support for people experiencing chronic health conditions, interpersonal violence, substance use, and significant mental health concerns. Sarah joined the UNCW School of Social Work faculty in 2019 as a part-time lecturer and transitioned to full-time faculty in the fall of 2025. She primarily teaches MSW field seminars for full-time and part-time students and social work practice skills courses for BSW and MSW students. Currently, Sarah serves as the BSW Assistant Field Coordinator, supporting undergraduate students in their practicum experiences. Sarah also team-teaches an applied learning course within the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences (Leadership Skills for Adventure Exercise) that provides undergraduate students with foundational knowledge in wilderness backpacking skills, leadership skills, environmental stewardship, and wilderness first aid. In addition to her roles at UNCW, Sarah maintains a private counseling practice supporting adults living with chronic illness.
