Education
- Ph.D. Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD
- B.S. University of North Carolina Wilmington
Research Interests
- Coastal ocean hydrodynamics, focusing on interactions between the wave driven surf-zone with the wind, wave and buoyancy driven inner-shelf (offshore of where waves break). I am also interested in how these interconnected regions contribute to coastal tracer evolution, like fine sediments and pollution. To study coastal processes, we use a combination of in situ and remote observation, and numerical models ranging from highly-idealized to quasi-realistic.

Education
- Ph.D., University of Rhode Island
- M.S., University of Rhode Island
- B.S. Ocean University of China
Research Interests
- My research interests are shaped by the increasingly common problems of eutrophication, hypoxia, harmful algal blooms (HABs) and invasive species etc. in coastal ecosystems and the increasing public and political awareness. My research focuses on developing advanced numerical models to simulate the physical and biogeochemical processes in the marine systems, to help understand how anthropogenic and natural stressors affect the coastal oceans, and how to improve their health.

Education
- Ph.D. Oregon State University
- M.OcE Oregon State University
- B.S. Clarkson University
Research Interests
- Dr. Long's research focuses on the on the role that winds, waves, and circulation have on transforming beaches and barrier islands on time scales ranging from extreme events (e.g., hurricanes) to decades. His research includes the development and application of numerical models to predict coastal hazards including rip currents, storm-induced coastal erosion and flooding, and long-term shoreline change. These models have been used to better understand and explain coastal processes, inform coastal management decisions, and quantify the vulnerability of communities and ecosystems.

Education
- Ph.D., University of Delaware
- M.C.E., University of Delaware
- B.S., Texas A&M University
Research Interests
- The Coastal Sediments and Hydrodynamics Laboratory (CSHL) conducts basic and applied research, via field and laboratory studies, to improve our understanding of the physical processes driving coastal flooding and geomorphology in a changing climate, leading to more effective coastal protection strategies against increasingly frequent intense storms and rising sea levels.
- CSHL’s research portfolio encompasses the following areas: nearshore sediment transport & hydrodynamics; applied instrumentation development; extreme event reconnaissance & post-storm beach recovery; low-cost LiDAR coastal surveying systems; hurricane impacts on coastal infrastructure; coastal resilience; and marsh/wetland hydrodynamics

- M.Sci., Oregon State University
- B.A., Wesleyan University
Research Interests
- I am a coastal physical oceanographer. My research uses ocean observations and numerical models to study circulation and water properties in shelf, estuarine, and nearshore environments. I am interested in how winds, waves and tides produce complex coastal dynamics and how understanding of these processes can improve the educational and economic well-being of communites.
