Philosophy and Religion

Minor Requirements

Students can minor in Philosophy and Religion with an emphasis in Philosophy or an emphasis in Religion. The requirements for each are outlined below.

An overall grade point average of "C" (2.00) or better is required in courses counted toward the minor.

Emphasis in Philosophy

Requirements for B.A. Degree with a Minor in Philosophy (21 credit hours):

  • PAR 101: Invitation to Philosophical Thinking
  • PAR 110: Introduction to Logic
  • PAR 115: Introduction to Ethics
  • PAR 201: History of Western Philosophy I or PAR 202: History of Western Philosophy II
  • an additional 9 hours in philosophy courses, 6 of which must be at the 300-400 level.

Emphasis in Religion

Requirements for a B.A. Degree with a Minor in Religion (18 credit hours):

  • PAR 103: Introduction to Religion or PAR 125: Great Books of the World's Religions
  • PAR 230: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
  • PAR 232: Asian Religions
  • an additional 9 hours in religion courses at the 200-400 level, at least 6 hours of which must be at the 300-400 level.
