What is DSST?

The DANTES Subject Standardized Test® (DSST) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of the DSST examinations.

Who can take DSST Tests at Camp Lejeune?

  • Military personnel (active and reserve) and military retirees
  • Adult family members of military and U.S. Department of Defense employees
  • Other civilians who have base access and those enrolled in the voluntary education program colleges/universities located aboard MCB Camp Lejeune or MCAS New River

What do I need to do prior to the test?

All testers will need to know their 4-digit Institution Score Report Recipient Code. This code can be found at www.getcollegecredit.com/institutions/search. Please bring this code on your testing day. Testers also need to bring two forms of ID and a credit card. Your test score will be available 24 hours after taking the exam, to view your results log in to http://ibt.prometric.com/dsst (external link).

How long and how much is a test?

DSST tests are 2 hours long.

For eligible military personnel, DSST testing is FREE, however military personnel who do not receive a passing score will be required to pay (out-of -pocket) for re-takes. Please contact the UNCW Testing Center 910.962.TEST (8378) for further details and eligibility requirements.

For everybody else the cost of a DSST exam is $108, per test. The testing fee is split in to two separate payments, the $80 DSST fee must be paid by CREDIT CARD on your testig day, UNCW's administrative fee of $25 (+ $3 convenience fee) has to be paid online at UNCW's Registration and Payment system.

What if I need to retake an exam?

Examinees must wait 90 calendar days for retakes. Examinees retesting before the 90-day waiting period has elapsed will have their test scores invalidated, be required to wait an additional 90-days, and forfeiting all retesting fees paid.

Reschedule

For online registrants: at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, you can reschedule at the UNCW's Registration and Payment website. Click on: My Registrations. Enter your email address. Reschedule your appointment.

How many college credits will I receive?

There are 37 computer-based tests available, it will depend on the school you will be attending, but you usually received 3 college credit for a DSST test. Where can I take a DSST Test?

Testing is available at the UNCW National Testing Center aboard MCB Camp Lejeune. The testing center is located in the John A. Lejeune Education Center, 825 Stone Street, in Room 121.

Eligible personnel (with base access) may schedule a test through Registration and Payment. Non-authorized personnel should access http://www.collegeboard.com/ (external link) for the nearest National Testing Facility.

Due to the limited number of seats available per DSST testing sessions, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required for all DSST exam cancellations.

In accordance with mandatory base dress code (external link) policies, appropriate attire is required when testing.

What if I have a disability and need special testing accommodations?

DSST requires documentation of a disability in order to provide the appropriate test accommodations. Please contact the DSST test administrator at 910.962.TEST (8378) for specific information PRIOR to scheduling an appointment.

How do I prepare for a DSST test?

DSST study materials are available at http://iStudySmart.com or http://getcollegecredit.com/testprep. Use institution code 7218. All military affiliated test takers may access www.nko.navy.mil for additional prep material. The Education Center Library, Base Library and Onslow County Libraries also have DSST testing materials.
