PDS Connects with School Partners as Academic Year Begins

Saturday, September 02, 2017

As the fall semester got underway, WCE’s Professional Development System Office was host to a series of events for district superintendents, principals and partnership teachers.

On August 2, district superintendents and charter school directors met with Watson College Dean Van Dempsey and members of WCE’s leadership team to share information and explore opportunities for collaboration during the 2017-18 academic year. A similar meeting with principals at WCE’s partnership schools was held at the college on Aug. 8.

Forty-four teachers attended Partnership Teacher Workshops at the Watson College on August 7 and September 7, including many new partners who will host WCE interns for the first time this year. At the workshops, teachers and faculty supervisors discussed student coaching and mentoring and shared information about the intern practicum semester.

Also in August, PDS hosted a professional development day for 60 partnership teachers from Pender High School, and assistant PDS director Jenn Knight visited partnership schools to lend support to Beginning Teacher programs.
