WCE Hosts Future Teacher Conference for High School Students

Sixty-eight students from high schools in southeastern North Carolina participated in the Future Teacher Conference held at the Watson College on Feb. 5.

The full-day conference featured workshops and a panel discussion with Watson Student Leaders enrolled in teacher education programs at the Watson College. The panelists were Caroline Demmitt, Early Childhood Education; Jasmine Stephens, Marguerite Siebert and Kellen Foster, Elementary Education; Alexis Noecker, Middle Grades; Morgan Chappuis, Secondary Education and Stephanie Bagenstose, Special Education. Callie Murray also participated on the panel, representing WCE’s Education Learning Community for freshmen.

High school students toured the UNCW campus, learned about the college admissions process and enjoyed a complimentary lunch during the conference, coordinated by Amy Rottmann, WCE's director of student recruitment and engagement.

Participating schools were Ashley and Hoggard High Schools in New Hanover County, Northside High School in Onslow County, Lejeune High School located on the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Princeton High School in Johnston County.
