Today we celebrate Veteran’s Day, an annual tradition honoring our United States military veterans. When UNCW was designated a university in 1947 after World War II, 75% of its students were veterans. This highlights the power of education, as many veterans reintegrating into civilian life chose to pursue knowledge for a brighter future.
Many of our veterans and their family members have earned, or are currently pursuing, degrees at the Watson College of Education. This commitment to education is crucial for our nation’s future success and stability. Our veterans, both students and alumni, understand the importance of preserving the freedoms we Americans enjoy, including the right to an education. Armed with knowledge, they have chosen to learn and to teach, develop, and lead others. In doing so, veterans, you honor UNCW, Watson, and our nation.
On behalf of all of us here at Watson, I thank you for your service. Happy Veterans Day!
