Madison Reid is from Richlands, North Carolina. She will graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education and said she is excited about her future teaching career.
“I chose to become a teacher because I love watching and helping children learn and grow,” she said.
Madison said her professors and courses at Watson have been helpful in preparing her for her career, and she has enjoyed her internship in a kindergarten classroom at John J. Blair Elementary School this spring.
“My professors have helped me become more confident in myself and my abilities,” she said. “They believed in me when I didn't believe in myself, and they pushed me to become the best version of myself as I could be.”
Madison said was honored to learn she had been selected for a Spring 2024 Hattie M. Strong Scholarship Award.
“This scholarship means so much to me that I was even a finalist let alone the recipient of the scholarship,” she said. “This scholarship is going to help me make my classroom the best and most engaging and welcoming classroom for my future students.”
When she isn’t studying or teaching in the classroom, Madison loves the beach, spending time with family and friends, and reading.
