UNCW is exploring an opportunity that could meaningfully strengthen health care and education across our region. In response to growing physician shortages in southeastern North Carolina, the university has requested authorization from the UNC System Board of Governors to take early planning steps toward a potential medical education program aligned with our strategic priorities. This exploration reflects UNCW's commitment to expanding student opportunities, enhancing access to high‑quality health care throughout the region and helping address a critical statewide workforce shortage.
