Please be aware there is an increased rip currents hazard due to two storms brewing in the Atlantic. Please stay informed and exercise caution if you plan to visit area beaches.
Before heading out, check local beach advisories and the National Weather Service's rip current risk. Pay close attention to the flags posted along the shore. These flags serve as indicators of current water conditions, including the presence of strong currents and other risks.
Learn more about rip currents and what to do if you encounter them by vising the UNCW Environmental Health and Safety’s rip currents page. For the latest updates on weather and beach conditions, consult the National Hurricane Center, the National Weather Service Wilmington or local news outlets.
While it is too early to determine what, if any, impacts to the area the two storms will cause, UNCW is closely monitoring the storms, working with area officials to issue guidance as necessary. Please monitor your UNCW inboxes, text messages, UNCW Mobile app, SafeZone app and the UNCW Alert website for updates.
Please check the Family Weekend website for any event impacts/updates.
