Local favorite Boombalatti's Homemade Ice Cream is serving the goods on the UNCW campus in a new location near The Shore Dining Hall. The shop will celebrate its official grand opening on Sept. 4, UNCW’s 78th anniversary, at 11 a.m.
Family owned and operated, each batch of Boombalatti’s ice cream is churned locally using North Carolina grass-fed dairy. The campus location offers a variety of favorites, including vegan options. The menu rotates based on availability and can be accessed via the shop’s socials.
“This partnership with Boombalatti’s is more than a grand opening — it’s a celebration of bringing a beloved Wilmington favorite to UNCW while diversifying our campus flavor profile and adding value to our dining meal plans,” said Gino Galutera, associate vice chancellor for Business Services. “By introducing a new food segment alongside our existing options, we’re giving students, faculty, staff and visitors a taste of the local community that makes the Seahawk experience even sweeter.”
Boombalatti’s first opened 10 years ago at The Forum and has locations in the Brooklyn Arts District, Hampstead and Carolina Beach. They ship within the United States.
Boombalatti’s has been recognized for having the best ice cream by local media outlets The Star-News, WECT and Wilmington Magazine. In 2023 and 2024, they achieved national recognition at the North American Ice Cream Retailers Association's ConeCon, taking home several honors for their chocolate, vanilla and vegan s'mores flavors.
