Moody’s Reaffirms UNCW’s Credit Strength, Stable Outlook

Moody’s Ratings has reaffirmed the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Aa3 rating on its general revenue bonds and A1 rating on its limited obligation bonds. The ratings carry a stable outlook, reflecting the university’s strong financial foundation, growing enrollment and continued support from North Carolina.

According to Moody’s, UNCW’s credit profile is strengthened by its membership in the University of North Carolina System, sound operating performance and a favorable coastal location that continues to attract students. In fiscal year 2024, UNCW generated operating revenue of $479 million and enrolled 17,103 full-time equivalent students (as of fall 2024).

“We are pleased that Moody’s has reaffirmed UNCW’s credit rating,” said Miles Lackey, UNCW vice chancellor for Business Affairs. “This rating reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to responsible financial stewardship and our strategic efforts to support student success while investing in campus infrastructure.”
