Approximately 5,500 new and returning students participated in UNCW’s Move-In Aug. 16-18. Campus and community volunteers helped the Seahawks settle into their new “nests.”
Move-In marks the start of UNCWelcome. Convocation, the Involvement Carnival and Beach Blast are some of the other annual, time-honored traditions that spike the Seahawk Spirit ahead of the official start of the academic year (classes begin Aug. 21).
“I am thrilled to welcome a new cohort of students to our beautiful campus as the academic year begins. UNCW Move-In is the start of an exciting journey for our incoming students who will undoubtedly contribute to the vibrant Seahawk community we cherish,” said Christine Reed Davis, vice chancellor for student affairs.
For the first time, a new UNCW app was available to help navigate Move-In and other welcome events. UNCW Mobile offers quick access to essential campus information and resources, including emergency notifications and is available to download via the App Store or Google Play.
Fall 2024 Numbers: (as of Aug. 1)
Each class since 2007 has their own flag featuring a prominent campus landmark. The Class of 2028’s flag highlights Hoggard Hall, one of the first campus buildings. The flags are displayed in the Fisher University Union.
Aug. 15 marked a new chapter for the UNCW Library. It is now open to all campus and community patrons after undergoing extensive renovation. The new building expansion (Discovery Hall) and renovated original building (Randall Hall) offers access to thousands of in-person and digital resources.
Beginning Aug. 21, the 30 Days of Discovery signature series offers the campus and community opportunities to explore the library’s various spaces and services. The official grand reopening and ribbon cutting is scheduled for Sept. 25. Details are available on the library’s website.
Established in 1947 as Wilmington College, UNCW will celebrate its 77th anniversary on Sept. 4.
Campus and community "volun-teals" kick off Move-In with breakfast at Wagoner, continuing a long and cherished tradition, before new students arrive.
Students checked in at one of two locations, Trask Coliseum or the Cultural Arts Building. Several tents were set up to assist students and their families with campus services.
