Fire at Village Green Apartments

Earlier today, a fire significantly damaged property at Village Green Apartments, a privately owned and operated facility, on North MacMillan Avenue near campus. No injuries were reported by the Wilmington Fire Department. Unfortunately, the damage displaced several residents, including at least three UNCW students. The number of affected students could change depending on smoke and water damage in nearby structures.

Student Affairs is actively working with affected students to secure housing and provide additional support for books, supplies, counseling and other needs. Counseling services are readily available for those affected by this situation:

The university deeply appreciates the efforts of the Wilmington Fire Department, Wilmington Police Department, UNCW Police Department, UNCW Environmental Health and Safety, Office of Facilities and the Office of the Dean of Students for their prompt response to the scene. Unfortunate events like today’s situation offer all of us an opportunity to review best practices for fire and life safety. Please review these resources provided by EHS.

Over the years, the UNCW community has consistently helped fellow Seahawks lift their wings during difficult times. The UNCW Student Emergency Fund provides financial assistance to students who encounter unforeseen challenges that could prevent them from continuing their education. If you would like to help a student in need, please consider making a gift today.
