Message from Chancellor Volety: New VCSA Named

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

I am writing today to let you know that Dr. Christine Reed Davis will join the UNCW community in January 2024 as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. She will leave behind UNC Charlotte, where she built a strong career of leadership and service, to shape and support student life at UNCW.

Christine assures me that she’s ready to trade Charlotte’s city skyline for our region’s sunny shoreline. Please join me in welcoming her to UNCW! 

The search committee, chaired by Dr. James J. Winebrake, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, worked quickly and effectively with the UNC System Office, which provided search firm services for this position, to recruit the outstanding group of finalists that led us to Dr. Davis. The news announcement about her appointment is posted on the UNCW website.

I also want to thank Dr. William D. Schafer, interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, for the enthusiasm and expertise he has shared with our campus community since his arrival in July. I asked Bill to listen to our students and professional staff, to support them in their endeavors, and to help UNCW enhance many of its processes and procedures in Student Affairs. He has done all of that and more during his time with us, and I am grateful for his kind and collaborative leadership.
