New Leadership at Watson College of Education

The Watson College of Education will begin the next academic year with new leadership in place, the university announced today. Dr. Van Dempsey is leaving his position as dean, effective July 14. Dr. Carol McNulty, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and Faculty Affairs, has been appointed interim dean of Watson College. 
 
“Dr. Dempsey has been an advocate for education at all levels on our campus, in our community and across North Carolina, and I appreciate his service to UNCW,” Provost James J. Winebrake said. “Going forward, I am excited to work with Dr. McNulty and the outstanding faculty and staff in Watson College to continue educating and inspiring students to succeed in settings where teaching and learning occur, including Pre-K-12, higher education and the workplace.” 
  
The Watson College of Education is home to more than 1,300 students and 150 faculty and staff. Learn more about its students, faculty and staff, programs, services and achievements on the university’s website.  
 
Dr. McNulty is an associate professor in Watson’s Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education. She holds a Ph.D. in elementary education from the University of Georgia. The university plans to initiate a search for a permanent dean during the 2023-24 academic year.
