Meaney Named an Emerging Leader

UNCW Director of Housing and Residence Life Kevin Meaney was selected by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) as part of the 2023 Emerging Leaders Program. He is one of 35 members of this year’s class, which includes department leaders, professors and other leaders in higher education from universities in 17 states.

“I was excited and thankful for the support I received from Vice Chancellor Lowell Davis and Chancellor Aswani Volety during the application process,” Meaney said. “The ELP application process is very competitive, and I feel lucky to have been selected.”

ELP is a leadership development program that prepares participants with the skills, connections and necessary support to navigate the transition to administrative roles, and provides opportunities for participants to assess their leadership style and strengths. Meaney says he hopes to learn new leadership skills and practices.

“I believe we have an obligation as higher ed professionals to stay current with best practices in all aspects of our field,” he said. “I am hopeful that spending this time with other campus leaders will expose me to new and innovative practices being implemented on other campuses and allow me to share with them some of the exciting things we are doing at UNCW.”

Meaney has been director of Housing and Residence Life since January 2022. He earned his doctorate in strategic leadership and postsecondary analysis at James Madison University (VA). He also has a master’s in higher education administration and a bachelor’s in American history from State University of New York Albany.
