Family-Friendly Summer Matinees Return to UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium
Friday, April 29, 2022
Superheroes, swashbuckling, a rapping librarian and African storytelling are just some of the wonders returning to Kenan Auditorium for the 2022 Seahawk Family Arts Matinees.
Recognizing the importance of family arts, UNCW’s Office of the Arts established the series in 2016 as an opportunity for families to experience performing arts together beyond field trips and date nights. Seahawk FAM also offers a respite from the summer heat and rainy-day entertainment. The one hour-performances begin at 10:30 a.m. and are held in Kenan Auditorium.
The 2022 lineup:
- June 23: Superhero Science
- June 30: Jester’s Jumble
- July 7: Mr. Scooter
- July 14: Madafo (sensory friendly African Storytelling)
- July 21: Broccoli Brothers
- July 28: Pirates Have Problems
Kenan Auditorium strives to make all performances accessible to all patrons. Accommodations for the July 14 sensory-friendly performance include:
- Lower sound and light levels
- Patrons are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance
- Designated safe space within the auditorium
- Kenan staff on hand to accommodate families' needs
Tickets are $5 per person per performance and can be purchased through contacting the Kenan Box Office at 910.962.3500 or going online. Group rates are available.
