UNCW Board of Trustees Elects Alumna Gidget Kidd as Chair

The UNCW Board of Trustees elected three members of the board who are alumni to serve as officers for the 2021-22 academic year, the university announced today. Gidget Kidd '91, a member of the board since 2013, was elected chair during the board meeting on July 16. While serving in this position, Kidd will lead the Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee and the Endowment Board.
Kidd, who previously served as vice chair, graduated from UNCW with a degree in elementary education. An Asheboro, NC, resident, she was an elementary and middle school teacher with Randolph County Schools for nine years, director of the preschool program at Asheboro First United Methodist Church for nine years, and a community leader with numerous community organizations, including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, the local Partnership for Children, Randolph Hospital Foundation, and the Salvation Army.
“As an alumna and parent of a UNCW graduate, I am honored to serve as chair of the Board of Trustees,” she said. “UNCW combines many of the best academic programs anywhere with dedicated faculty and staff and a gorgeous, coastal campus. I look forward to collaborating with board colleagues and other UNCW leaders to help our resilient university continue enhancing the many ways it serves students and the community.”
Henry E. “Hank” Miller III ’85 was elected vice chair. Miller previously served as secretary of the board. He also has served as chair of the UNCW Foundation Board. Miller is president of Miller Realty Associates Inc., CEO of M&N Construction Supply Inc., and senior vice president for Cape Fear Commercial LLC. Prior to joining Cape Fear Commercial, Miller was chairman of Miller Building Corporation. He lives in Wrightsville Beach, NC, where he serves as Mayor Pro Tem of the Board of Aldermen. He has been involved with numerous civic organizations, including the Wilmington Urban Area Transportation Advisory Committee, the Wilmington Regional Association of REALTORS Government Affairs Committee, and the board of directors of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.
H. Carlton Fisher ’83 was elected secretary. Fisher, of Wilmington, NC, is also a former member and chair of the UNCW Foundation Board. He is the son of Wilmington College alumni Herbert and Sylvia Fisher, and numerous facilities on campus bear the Fisher family name in recognition of their generous support and love of the university. Fisher is the owner and manager of Coastal Realty, a commercial real estate firm in Wilmington.
